| Dear WSCI Members
Thank you for your prior membership in WSCI, the premier regional organization of academic medicine. The object of WSCI is the cultivation and enrichment of medical research in the Western United State and Western Canada. Our society focuses on encouraging younger researchers (both MDs and PhDs) to go in and stay in academic medicine. This is especially crucial now as many trainees are discouraged by the uncertainties of academic medicine and difficult funding rates of the NIH and go into private practice or work for industry. We hope you continue to support our mission and remain as a member, even if you are not planning on attending the Carmel meetings in January 2012. Please visit our new website at www.wscicarmel.org and keep abreast of WSCI activities. For those planning on attending the Carmel meetings in January 2012, the reduction in registration fees will be equal to or more than the cost of membership. For example, for those renewing for one year, membership dues will be $100 and you will receive $100 discount on the meeting. For those renewing for three years, membership dues will be $250 and you will receive $300 discount on the registration of all three meetings. Members renewing this year will receive a membership card with a member number and that number will need to be provided during registration to receive the registration discount. Additional membership benefits being allowed to vote on all WSCI issues. Your membership goes to supporting travel and other awards to young investigators and provide honorariums to keynote speakers; without your support, we will have to reduce our travel awards and honorariums. Your participation in the WSCI membership meeting in Carmel is encouraged. We will not require you to pay back dues as previously required to maintain membership. We do, however, welcome donations for prior years or for other contributions. We will list you on the WSCI website (www.wscicarmel.org) as a Friend of WSCI. With you continued support we will be able to accomplish our goals and more this year. Please renew your membership today.
